The amendment was included in the Senate’s version of the FAA Reauthorization Act.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator JD Vance (R-OH) successfully included an amendment in the Senate’s FAA Reauthorization Act which will enable the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport to receive Airport Improvement Program (AIP) funding through fiscal year 2028. The airport is also home to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, which Senator Vance visited last year.
“The Youngstown-Warren Airport is a crucial asset to the Mahoning Valley,” said Senator Vance. “I’m hopeful new federal funding will be used to repair the airport’s runways and ensure the continuity of reliable air operations for years to come. I’ll do all that I can to ensure AIP eligibility for the Youngstown-Warren Airport is signed into law.”
Guy Coviello, President and CEO of the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber: “This is wonderful step forward for the Mahoning Valley economy. Our airport is critical to maintain private aviation, and Trumbull County’s largest employer – the air station – is dependent upon it. It has been a pleasure working with our Federal delegation to work on legislation that supports a valuable piece of the Valley’s infrastructure. We appreciate Senator Vance’s leadership and bipartisan effort to include this measure at Committee today”
Anthony Trevena, Executive Director of the Western Reserve Port Authority: “The Western Reserve Port Authority extends sincere gratitude to Senator Vance for his pivotal role in advancing alterations to the Airport Improvement Program language in the Senate FAA reauthorization bill. Senator Vance’s commitment to reinstating previous funding levels, essential for the continued growth and operation of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, ensures its sustained development and success. We eagerly anticipate the passage and positive outcomes this legislation will bring to the Mahoning Valley.”
Josh Prest, Executive Director of the Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission: “On behalf of the Eastern Ohio Military Affairs Commission, thank you to Senator JD Vance for championing important changes to the Airport Improvement Program language in the Senate FAA reauthorization bill. With the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport being home to the 910th Airlift Wing and the Youngstown Air Reserve Station, it is critical that the airport receive their fair share of funding from the federal government to make necessary repairs and upkeep to the runways that the 910th AW uses on a daily basis, which has a direct impact on our national security and military readiness. We encourage the entire U.S. Senate to approve these changes in the FAA bill and continue to strengthen our state of national defense and security.”
